My Take on Immune System Boosters

As you all are likely well aware, I recently took on the challenge of fostering a dog and her ten puppies with Lucky Lab Rescue. This sad bunch has struggled with their health, first with malnutrition as mom was a stray; next, with anemia because of parasites; and finally, an exposure of unknown origin to the deadly virus distemper. After sadly losing two pups, the medical contact with the organization and I had a candid conversation that in order to save the surviving litter mates, I’d have to put in around-the-clock care – and to my surprise she sent me a shopping list which contained familiar names: Curcumin, Olive Leaf, Vitamin C, and CBD oil. Fortunately, this group of pups finally turned a corner last week, and I am thankful to have had their supplement regimen to help them, even if it required me to be sleep deprived.

Let’s be honest, medicine still has not yet mastered true understanding of the immune system, but when it comes to acute illness or even autoimmune conditions, there is tons of literature which supports the use of supplement boosters. I also love the concept of treating food as medicine. The big picture goal is to ultimately reduce inflammation by consuming and properly utilizing antioxidants, which in turn curbside free radicals. If free radicals were allowed to accumulate, you would be set up for higher instances of illness or disease. The science aside, my puppy litter is proof in the pudding – these additions DO work.

So if you are looking for ways to boost YOUR immune system, take an inventory of your medicine cabinet, pantry and refrigerator and…

Consider adding the following supplements:
Zinc
Vitamin C
Selenium
Colloidal Silver
Vitamin A
Curcumin
Elderberry
Vitamin D3
Licorice (Just be cautious with this one if you have diagnosed heart conditions or high blood pressure, please.)

Consider adding more of the following to your diet:
Beets
Ginger
Garlic
Oregano
Carrots
Cumin
Green Leafy Vegetables
Mango

Cheers to you and your family staying healthy – and healthy pups, too!

I believe health care needs to be directed away from large multi-level health systems streamlined to be money-making business enterprises with huge profits and, instead – the focus needs to fall back on you, the patient, and your health needs. I choose to challenge the industry-wide standard of a 15 minute health care visit. Health and wellness is a journey, what I call “being the best version of yourself” – and this cannot be contained within such a short allotment of time.
